During this year’s Roma Week at the European Parliament, young Roma from across Europe delivered a strong and clear message. At a meeting with Members of the European Parliament, they presented the Roma Youth Pledge, a call to action grounded in remembrance, education, and youth empowerment. The initiative was supported by MEP Hristo Petrov, who stood alongside the youth during the presentation.

The pledge outlined key demands, including fighting antigypsyism, ending the segregation of Roma children in “Roma-only” schools, and guaranteeing equal access to quality, inclusive education. It also highlighted the importance of preserving Roma identity, language, and culture, supporting youth at risk of exclusion, and addressing online hate speech. The young Roma emphasized that this pledge was more than just words, it was a call for concrete action.
MEPs Hristo Petrov, Tomáš Zdechovský, and Nikos Papandreou signed the pledge, publicly committing to support Roma youth across Europe.
The initiative marked an important milestone in the ongoing efforts of young Roma leaders, who demonstrated their readiness to contribute to building a fairer and more inclusive European society.
