On 22 April 2026, the high-level event Together Against Antigypsyism Online (TAAO): Confronting Online Antigypsyism: Evidence, Accountability and EU Action will take place at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels EU Roma Week 2026.

The event will bring together representatives of European institutions, equality bodies, civil society organisations and Roma stakeholders to examine current evidence on online antigypsyism and to discuss the policy and regulatory implications for the European Union.
The discussion will be informed by findings from the TAAO project, a multi-country study examining the forms, scale and impact of online anti-Roma hate speech across six European countries. The research documents the prevalence of hostile and discriminatory content across major digital platforms, the use of both explicit and coded forms of hate speech, and the limited effectiveness of existing reporting and moderation mechanisms. It also identifies the increasing relevance of visual content and AI-generated material in the circulation of anti-Roma narratives.
The event is structured around contributions from researchers, Roma organisations, EU institutions and equality bodies, with a focus on evidence, accountability and implementation. It provides a framework for discussing how existing European instruments, including the Digital Services Act, are applied in practice and where further institutional, regulatory and platform-level responses may be required. The objective is to support a more consistent and informed approach to addressing online antigypsyism within the European policy context.
